This short video shows the disrespect to skateboarders and their view to the world.

About the movie:

by JR Cronheim

This film was made as a New York Film Academy 1st semester short film requirement to hone the skills learned in the previous few months of class. This included concept and preproduction writing, research, casting, lighting, shooting, and editing. The films were to include elements of cinema verite’, archival/multimedia, voiceover, and music.

I am currently writing a feature film about skateboarding’s immense global cultural significance as an artistic movement (perhaps one of the greatest of the 21st century) and it’s relationship with society at large from its self creation, evolution thru to the present, and it’s future is to be.

The next film project currently in pre-production is an extended 25 minute version of this short incorporating more elements from the feature script utilizing an additional cast of characters and a great deal more of fresh, vertite’ skateboarding footage. The projected date for this film’s completion is August 2012.

Although being produced through NYFA, I have also recruited Alex Corporan in the role of associate producer as well as skater and long time friend Brian Appio (brianappio.com) for photo/video documentation of the ‘behind the scenes’ production.

The weather in the Netherlands hasn’t been great for a couple of weeks, and the forecast for Lake Garda seemed to be even worse than the cold and wet weather here. We know that normally the online forecast isn’t the most trustful information we can get. And the locals agree with it.
A few days before the start of the bikefestival we arrived in Torbole, our ‘homebase’ for this trip. The sun had allready arrived so it was time for our first bike ride. We went to Riva to climb the Ponale to Pregasina and beyond. I discovered a cool downhill trail back to Riva and then we went on to the Monte Brione. Just 300 meters of climbing followed by a sweet technical downhill!

Ponale

Our Tremalzo and Monte Baldo tour had to be canceled due the snow on top of the mountains. Bikes were not allowed.
In my bike marathon goody bag I found a new map of the ‘Mountain and Garda Biketour’. Besides their tour they described some shorter alternatives. So I went to Lago di Ledro, only this time via the alternative route. On the way up you’ll find some really steep climbs. On the other side of the lake it went further up for 300 altimeters, and I had already climbed 700 to get there. The alternative route was a bit disappointing, besides some nice views which made up for all the climbing.

Monte Brione

On Saturday evening we visited the King of Dirt and Scott Nightsprint. The King of Dirt ended after about 30 minutes, but the Scott Nightsprint lasted much longer due to the elimination system, so it was possible to see your favorite rider in more than one race! Dutchies Anneke Beerten and Joost Wichman both made it to the highest podium position. After the races it was possible to watch the European premiere of ‘Strength by Numbers’.
But, it’s time to get some sleep, tomorrow it’s marathon day!

King of Dirt

The next day the sun had disappeared behind some clouds, so the race wasn’t as warm as the last couple of years. Not so much sweating this time. The trail was in a perfect condition. After the first climb to 1150 meters the first technical downhill section started. Nice to check your bikes kills! The total trail shows you the best of Lake Garda, but the parts to get to another section aren’t that spectacular. For the less trained biker it’s a perfect time to recover though.
The Specialized Enduro Ride on Monday was rainy, but the atmosphere was great. It was very crowded and everyone cheered the riders down on this very difficult track.

Specialized Enduro Ride

For our last ride we decided to ride the famous 601 but because the cablecar from Malcesine didn’t go to the top we decided to make it a real enduro ride. No cablecar, just climbing to 700 meter before we picked up the 601 downhill. Our sponsor ‘Supertrail Map‘ provided us with some cool maps from the area. On this map they indicate how technical the climbs and descents are by using different colors for each section. Our trail was orange, purple and black, all difficult downhill trails. The orange trail was nice and technical. Purple was a little harder, but on most parts we could stay on our bikes. Then the black sections… they were way too difficult for us! We had to get off our bikes to get down in one piece. But since the 601 is a classic trail, you just have to ride it when you’re near Lake Garda!
Just before we entered Torbole we took a look at the little bikepark, built with a 4-cross, trail courses and x-country trails. Nice to visit!

601

So, it was again a good week: nice trails, the weather was great, Italian food and a cool event. Next year? Sure!

With our ’86 camper we’re not in our favorite European bike destinations as fast as we used to be. To take a nice break from the long hours of driving we stop over a little more often. The big advantage: you see places you normally wouldn’t!

Maloja Store Munchen

This year, we decided to visit Munich on our way to the bike festival in Riva del Garda. On Maloja’s website we had already read this is where the Maloja flagstone can be found! Since we’re not unfamiliar with the brand and it’s fresh designs, our choice was easily made. Navigate directly towards the shop!

Enough choice for everyone

From the heart of the city’s center, it a 15 minute stroll before you’re right in front of the store window. They’re showing off the new collection in the window, so in we went. Stepping inside feels like coming home: a warm and cozy setting and walls decorated with big canvas pictures like the ones you find in the catalogue. And of course the whole Maloja collection can be found here, not to bad either! We immediately noticed a big expansion of the store compared to last year. A whole new area has been arranged at the back of the store, containing dressing rooms, sale items and a great new bar!

Home is where the heart is…..

We started talking to the store’s staff soon, and while enjoying a freshly brewed espresso we got to know them a little better. The day after the shop had planned a 3-year-anniversary party, and we enjoy a little party once in a while :-). We got there one day earlier, to bad for us we had to move on!.

We have obviously looked through the entire collection and bought ourselves some nice stuff. In case you’re not familiar with the brand – or in case you are – we definitely recommend a visit to the shop with it’s friendly staff, good espresso and a collection you might expect from Maloja. A wide range of bike and casual clothing with a fresh design you won’t find with too many other manufacturers.

And when you’re there; say hello to Britta and her team from us!

After an amazing final, the VIENNA AIR KING 2012 on the Rathausplatz of Vienna, British rider Sam Pilgrim once again can call himself the Vienna Air King, just like in the last two years. The season kick-off of the FMB World Tour took place under critical weather conditions, but caused big excitement for about 100,000 people visiting the event at the Rathausplatz. Pilgrim shares the podium with his fellow countryman Sam Reynolds and the Spaniard Andreu Lacondeguy.

Due to the hard weather conditions on the first and second event day, there was a slight change for the schedule. Big ease, when Vienna’s weather conditions on Sunday were acceptable for a great final. The absolute highlight of the ARGUS BIKE FESTIVAL on the Rathausplatz of Vienna saw plenty of big names, and in the end it was the contest-dominating Sams (Pilgrim and Reynolds) from Great Britain who took the podium places, joined by Andreu Lacondeguy with a convincing performance. The extreme high trick level on the generously constructed jumps was once again prove for the awesome progression freeride mountain biking saw in the last years. New faces like Canadian rider Matt MacDuff or the young French guard featuring riders like Louis Reboul or Antoine Bizet increase the expectations for the third season of the FMB World Tour.

Sam Pilgrim made absolutely clear, that he is the ultimate factor in the dirt and slopestyle disciplines at the moment. Already in his first run, that was not to be topped by any of the 30 finalists, he showed a backflip table at the step down, followed by a backflip no hand, a 360 tailwhip, completed with a 720, that brought him the highest score of the day.
Sam Reynolds was nearly on the same trick level asPilgrim, kicking a backflip at the step down, a backflip no hand, a flipwhipand finally a 360 tailwhip at the last obstacle, resulting in second place.
Big airtime lover Andreu Lacondeguy impressed the judges with a backflip from the step down, an extreme fat flipwhip, followed by a 360 flatspin at the third obstacle as well as a 360 tailwhip at the last jump.

The jinx of the weekend was Martin Söderström. After just releasing his wicked edit from the last weeks of his season’s preparations, you could expect him to place on the podium for sure. Unfortunately the Swedish trick machine crashed during practice when he tried a barspin to tailwhip. He concussed and had to get a few stitches, but was fine after all and should be back at the next tour stop in Switzerland.

The silver event in Vienna also created a new Panasonic best trick king: the young gun from France Antoine Bizet killed an amazing backflip no hand at the step down in his run, counting at the same time as best trick and brought him an extra 1,000 Euro of prize money.
5th placed Linus Sjöholm from Sweden was stoked about winning the wild card for the upcoming Red Bull Berg Line in mid of May. At the Vienna Air King he was the best-placed rider that was originally not invited to the FMB World Tour Gold event in Winterberg.

With magnets on their hands they grap rails, or a Red Bull can if you like…. But it’s airtime they like the most, and with some practice you can land them on their boards.

Show your favorite trick at your friends using the Chuckbuddies, or try it yourself. On the official website you can find drawings how to build your own Chuckbuddies snowpark.

Later this year the Chuckbuddies will be available as a pro-edition of your favorite boarder!

Hereby a movie with Chuck in a leading role!

What makes Verbier one of the best mountain biking destinations in the Alps?

Verbier has everything you as a mountain biker can dream of and can certainly compete with other well-known mountain biking destinations. Cross country riders will not get bored with the endless single track, grass and gravel paths through the most spectacular scenery, alpine meadows, forests, along mountain streams and hidden valleys where the chances are that you encounter no other bikers all day.

Because of the diversity of paths, the area is very suitable for all levels. The presence of the lifts and the dedication of our buses have the ability to skip big climbs. Even if you’re not a super climber you can still cover a larger area within your reach.

If you’re more a downhill biker you can do a single descent in altitude over 2000 meters over challenging rock and root paths. The cable car brings you up in no time so you can start your run over-and-over again.

Every day we make a choice for a new challenging route that fits the level of our participants.

By Verbier’s excellent location, we are a short drive from more famous destinations such as Chamonix, Crans Montana and the Aosta Valley in Italy. We offer you several weeks the possibility to create one or more days to let us guide you to destinations outside Verbier where we use a shuttle bus that is equipped to transport mountain bikes.

Our Accommodation in Verbier
Our chalets are quietly situated outside the center of Verbier. It is fully equipped and the gardens offers you a view on the mountains and the most beautiful trails.

With 5 spacious rooms, each chalet suits for 10 people and features a spacious living room with fireplace, TV / DVD and wireless internet. In the garage the bikes are stored safely and there is sufficient space, both inside and outside, to maintenance your bike. Here you can use our workshop wash box .

Bed linen and towels are provided and the chalet is kept clean during the week by one of our employees. There is a washer and dryer.

The chalet is a stone’s throw away from the sports center. If you still have enough energy left you can you use the indoor and outdoor swimming pool, squash and tennis courts or the ice runway. The center of Verbier is located 5 minutes away, here you will find shops, bars and terraces.

Complete All-Inclusive
“Food is Fuel”

Food is “fuel” and we will make sure that you always have enough energy for challenging rides we have in store for you. We start the day with a full breakfast and our “biker’s lunch” in the form of a lunch ensures that the energy supply in the afternoon remains at level.

When you return to the chalet at the end of the afternoon you can relax with a cool drink and light snack to enjoy the view of snowy peaks and the often breathtaking sunset before you can enjoy a superb dinner.

Naturally the food is of excellent quality and we use fresh ingredients. You’ll find no standard pasta with tomato sauce but we will ensure healthy, varied and surprising dishes accompanied by fine wines. If the weather permits, at least 1 BBQ will be offered.

Outside the three meals you can use unlimited tea and coffee. The fridge is always full with soft drinks and beer. What you drink you write it on a list and at the end of the week, these drinks should be payed.

Every day a breakfast will be provided. On Wednesday, the day of rest, no lunch and dinner are provided. This is the day-of for our chef and this gives you the opportunity to make your own program for the day and evening. On the “rest day” ,Wednesday, is the experience that everyone gives their own interpretation of the day and go hiking for example, a trip to Aosta in Italy or Chamonix in France, the Olympic Museum in Lausanne to visit or just relax at the chalet is or to the swimming pool.

Because there is no dinner that night in the chalet you don’t have to be back for a certain time and you can fully utilize the day. There are some nice restaurants in Verbier and we’ll give you some tips and recommendations.

We advise you to bring enough energy bars and sports drink in order to avoid problems while riding.
